With Plauge’s upcoming anniversary in mind, I decided to put together a mixtape with some of my favourite Plauge choons from the last ten years – tracks that I’ve played more than once or twice in my Plauge -associated sets. Initially I wanted to combine numerous different genres in order to stay true to our collective’s eclectic nature, but a 100-track mixtape isn’t that feasible so I decided to stick mostly to the housier side of things… All of these are personal classics to me, and many of them should be familiar to You as well. This one’s a one of my all-time faves. Dalion and I met in high school and very soon when we realised we were both DJ’ing Dalion gave me a minidisc just a Dalion Mixtape #1 written on the label. I’ve listened to it a hundred times since and now, after few years it still sounds sooo goood. That time it was downtempo and jazzy drum’n'bass all around here. Among other things of course. “Eclectic” was the description of the common early 2000′s diverse DJ’ing style and also the thing Plauge were based on.

Dalion – Mixtape #1

One of my best mixtape, IMO, is also a smooth, jazzy and eclectic combination from 2007. As a tribute to Dalion’s tape, after the intro, it also continues with Jimi Tenor’s Outta Space – which has become a regular intro (or outro) for many sets during the years.

Vanhoja on hauska muistella, mutta tää oli vähän rajoilla. Radio Moreenilla kymmenen vuotta sitten pyörinyt Karri Korpin juontama Kuumotus-ohjelma oli tamprelainen klubimusiikin erikoisohjelma. 25.11.2002 pääsivät studioon vieraiksi nuoret herrat Jon, Juha ja Miksu, sekä silloin Plaugen kuvioissa mukana ollut Toni. Hermostuneesti kikatteleva nelikko selitteli vastaperustetusta kollektiivista ja ideasta yhdistellä eri musatyylejä bileissä. Oman musan tekeminen oli innokasta vaikkei osaamista vielä oikein löytynytkään. Musiikkia kuunnellaan aina Avanto-projektin kehnosta Aphex Twin -pastissista Sanansaattajien suomiräppiin ja Juhan ja Miksun valitsemiin house- ja trancebiiseihin! Omia korvia hieman punottelee, mutta Hauskaa on kuitenkin kuunnella, kuinka teini-ikäisillä plaugelaisilla oli vahva idea, joka on säilynyt oikeastaan samana jo 10 vuotta!

Oh, the darkness. You just know how to put a man down. So in a celebration for upcoming shortest day of the year here in the northern hemisphere, here is a set full of techno (and some tech house). I accindentally got a little carried away hence the length, slightly over two hours. Some of you probably think basic techno track to be boring and repetitive, but you should give it a go anyway.

Artists who are celebrating the shortest day with us include the survivor of one night in Tampere, Tommy Four Seven, Len Faki, The Advent, Speedy J, Chris Liebing, Phil Kieran, Green Velvet, Nitzer Ebb, Richie Hawtin and Perc among many others. Tracks may not be as dark as days and nights here and like every winter this set ends in somewhat brighter note, you know, spring and all.

Here, listen and try not to feel moody.

I’ve been enchanted by the deeper side of house for the whole autumn and I wanted to do a mixtape that combines the groovy and easygoing housers with some atmospheric prog stuff. I intended to only include tracks with that ‘breezy winter sound’ but it seems that I can’t escape my inner sunshine and thus there are some warmer tunes in there as well. This set also has one track from my favourite release of the year, Peet – Movement (Thru Coloured Glass). The whole EP is just pure magic and hopefully we hear a lot more from this artist.
