July?! And it is almost September?! A bit late with these monthly updates due to busy summer. Time does really fly!

We had unforgettable gig at Pori Jazz, bar Barco. Very nice time at JAMit festival in Rauma. Not to forget numerous really nice late nights at Tempo Terrace.

I wanted to put up High5 episode filled with disco jams that made at least my summer, hope the same for many others as well. First tune is the original tune that have been sampled by Armand Van Helden & A-Trak to their huge hit ‘Anyway‘. Second track is huge disco hit from Frantique, Philadelphia based disco group. Three last tunes are legendary Philadelphia disco. I will write Dance Classics blog post later on about Philadelphia disco to open it up a bit more.

Last night I had the opportunity to play a breaks set, something which I haven’t done in ages. Most of the tunes are quite old since there’s really not much going on with this style these days – it’s all dubstep or drum’n'bass now. I wanted to include as much subgenres as possible, because the whole sound is really versatile. You can hear oldskool, nu skool, funky and wobbley stuff all mixed up in this live recording from the Steps -club. 501 from Helsinki was also appearing behind the decks, so I decided to end my set in dubstep.

Yo! Im a bit late on June but since it’s shining so heavy, who cares! Pori Jazz is held this month and me with Herman Prime are going to play there for four days! Name of the game is Dance Classics, place is boat/huge terrace Barco that is on the Jazz street. Check facebook event! Of course Pori is going to be full of great and greater bands during the Jazz festival. I picked one for this month minimix (or last months.. ), give a big hand to the amazing: Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings.

A bit about Sharon, she has a interesting story. When Sharon was younger she was singing regularly in the gospel choir, had sessions with local funk bands and took part to talent competitions. But she never really made  the big break. Sharon has told that the reason for this was that she was too short, too fat, too dark skin and when she passed 25 she was too old.

Till 1996 she was working as prison ward and that is the year when her luck turned and she got to show her real talent. After some various projects the band, the Dap Kings, was formed and they finally released their first album on 2002 (Dap Dippin’ with the Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings). Now after four albums, some have said that this is the band leading soul and funk revival. I must say I agree even there are loads of other good bands doing their thing.

Guest time again on High5 minimix series, special bigband stuff from Poland by Rewelacyjny Luciano!

‘Kicks off with Gustav Brom’s heavy track from the “Polymelomodus” LP (pressed in limited quantity and not made available in stores). After that I’ve put two tracks by a Radio & TV orchestra from Katowice led by my favourite Polish musician/composer – Jerzy Milian – same crew but the tracks are from different LPs. Next up is another massive track from Gustav Brom originally released in Germany. Haven’t got the original LP but I managed to score a bootleg jazz compilation containing this jazzdance monster. Finally my favorite track from the live LP “Jazz Ze Studia A”.‘
