This years first High5 nimimix is kicked off with some fiiiiiine blaxploitation movie music classics. This set of composers simply cannot let anyone down. This should be called Ultra High5! Enough bullshit feel the love and danger!

02 Curtis Mayfield – Give Me Your Love
03 Johnny Pate – Truck Stop
04 Marvin Gaye – “T” Stands For Trouble
05 Bobby Womack – If You Don’t Want My Love

Back in 2006, me and my partner-in-many-crimes, Dalion, made a few live gigs. Usually it was Dalion with percussions and turntables and me with the keys, samples and a laptop. Oh, what fun it was every time! We managed to rehearse once or twice so it was very much “jazz” in a result – and not maybe in a good way always. Our first gig was at local electronic music and art posse Swaeg’s 2-year birthday at Klubi. I was soooo nervous. Got it a bit loosier in the end tho: Here’s the last song of our set. An old school influenced drum’n'bass jam made from a 60’s agent series theme with a tambourine and spaced-out organs! Olkaa hyvä!

Stockholm really surprised me. While record stores are closing all around here in Finland vinyl is hotter than July in Sweden. Hipsters buy the shit because it’s cool. Others just because used vinyl’s cheaper than digital music.
Groove Patrol – Dancin\’ To The Music (Caffeine Mix) AIF

Drums for September nights. Progressive funky, poppy, crispy rock tape. Opening tune is by Castanja and the tune is from album that was their first and last. Althought the band backed up Jukka Kuoppamäki and played on several other artists albums on their record label Satsanga. Watch out for that label if you are going to dig grates..
Well Santana doesn’t need much lecturing. Selected this tune cause I love the guitars on it, reeeeally rocking sound! And what I have come to known, people knows Santanas music quite poorly. If you come up with the name Santana and that rings a bell, second bell prolly is Black Magic Woman. He have made a lot of good stuff, for example this rocking tune. Third and fourth tunes are from vinyl compilation that I recently bought (well hung). Funk rock from Hungary. Even communism cannot stop great music to be composed! Last tune is from girl rock band called Birtha. They released two albums back in the days but that was it. If you ever come across with either of the albums, I really recommend getting one. Both albums are rocking and hard. Great musicians, they really know how to put groove to the rock! Anyways, have fun listening:
01 Castanja – Svengidisco
02 Santana – Open Invitation
03 Piramis – Mondj Egy Meset
04 Anna Adamis & Gabor Presser – Ringasd el magad no.2.
05 Birtha – Judgement Day
I had to visit Rauma on work related stuff, of course I hooked up with few Plauge fellows to dig into Raumas crates on the same trip. Didn’t find anything super rare but I was clad to finally find Donald Byrds Caricatyres album and Love Unlimited Orchestra album Music Maestro Please. Along those found Mecos super long Star Wars disco tune. Also found Sesame Street Fever, funny record. I really like those old Sesame Street tunes because even those have been made for kids, they still have been made with good taste, to prove my point check this Pointer Sisters video: pinball number count. Lovely jazzfunk tune! However the Sesame Street LP I found didn’t include pinball number count tune but still had some funny disco stuff, check minimix!
When I finally got home from Rauma I put Sesame Street on the technics, hit record and played these five tunes without further planning or mixing, just to let you hear whats on those albums I got from flea markets. Thats what this blog series is all about, just to bring some funny five tunes to your ears to enjoy! First tune is from that Sesame Street disco album, do the pidgeon! Second clip is Barry Whites tune I Wanna Stay it is sampled by for example Q-tip to hes tune vivrant thing. Third one is my favorite, because it is produced by Mizell brothers, Donald Byrd – Dance Band. Now fourth one I found from Tampere, Bonus kirppis, it is a finnish translation from Allen Toussaints ‘Working in a Coal Mine’ tune that has been covered many many times, Lee Dorsey have made nice version of it: check. Last but definately not least! ‘Pigalelle jonoon vaan’ by Cascade, Lady Marmelade in finnish.
01 Sesane Street Fever – Doin’ the Pigeon
02 Love Unlimited Orchestra – I wanna Stay
03 Donald Byrd – Dance Band
04 E.Sarmo & Elite – Työssä Satamassa
05 Cascade – Pigalelle Jonoon Vaan
Koska minä ja Åke olemme molemmat kesämiehiä, ajattelimme nauhoittaa tällaisen Afrikkaan ja Latinalaiseen Amerikkaan sijoittuvan nauhan. Åke vietti viime vuonna kuukauden Namibiassa ja tutustui siellä moniin eteläafrikkalaisiin kykyihin kun taas itse olen jo pidempään ollut kiinnostunut latinalaisamerikkalaisesta kulttuurista. Kesälomamme viettäisimme siis mieluiten Afrikan etelärannikolla tai Karibian saarilla. Vaikka kappaleet ovatkin lähinnä afro- tai latinohenkisiä, kappaleiden tekijät ovat peräisin ympäri maailmaa: DJ Gregory Ranskasta, Juan Magan & Marcos Rodrigues Espanjasta ja Tiger Stripes Ruotsista.
Hyvää kesää kaikille!
