Samplebusters 5: Halloween special

It’s Halloween in some parts of the world and our local all hallows eve is just around the corner (on Saturday). So in a celebration of ghosts and such, here is a goths sampled in techno and a horror theme sampled by a masked woman.

Everybody should guess that Jacko’s Thriller has been sampled on a bazillion tracks, some of them themed to monsters and other scary things. But his sister went the other way. She or producers of the track sampled one famous horror movie theme on her track Velvet Rope. You might recognize the track being from the movie with crucifix and pea soup vomit. Though I now wonder full 48 and half minute version of the song wasn’t used on the movie. Lyrics and all.

Next up is bunch goths in a group called Sisters Of Mercy and Dutch producer duo. It’s easy to see why John Carpenter’s Halloween theme has been sampled also a bazillion times but almost always by rappers or some hardstylers. So it feels a bit strange that goths have gotten away quite easily in this sample game. Maybe their material isn’t that sampleable? Also renowed techno artists hadn’t sampled alot horror stuff. But luckily these two from Holland weren’t afraid.

The source is one of the Sisters Of Mercy’s more uptempo track called First And Last And Always. Destination is Alleviation Of Distress by Jark Prongo. This sampling appeared to cause a slight stir among goths but then again if something you hold dear gets stolen by someone you probably dispise, anyone will be vocal about it. Jark Prongo also has sampled something else.
