Unless you’re currently living under a rock or just don’t hang out on the interwebs a lot, you’ve probably heard “Fuck You!” by Cee-Lo Green. It’s a fun little retro-soul track with a “fuck” in the chorus. Most people probably also know the man from his Timbaland-produced hit “I’ll Be Around”:

Or maybe from his work with Dangermouse as Gnarls Barkley:

But there’s so much more!

Cee-Lo is one of the best damn rapper/singers in the world. Hailing from Georgia, he has always been on the cutting edge of good hip-hop. Cee-Lo began as a part of the southern outfit Goodie Mob. Along with OutKast and UGK they were always the groups that made even the people who hated the south pay attention. Check out this piece of mellow loveliness:

Oh and there’s also this classic cut they made with the ‘Kast:

But it wasn’t until his solo career that Cee-Lo really hit his stride. Cee-Lo started surfing on the same weird, futuristic soundwaves that OutKast made famous. His solo songs are a weird amalgamation of southern energy and double-time raps, good old soul and funk and what is usually referred to as “some other, other shit”. Here’s a collection of top tunes from his two solo albums, plus an incredibly soulful collabo with Common (it’s a song about Tupacs mom, and it is awesome). There’s also a seriously nice Emynd bmore remix of “Fuck You” and a great cover of No One’s Gonna Love You (a Band of Horses song).
