Today is a good day to celebrate acid house music and the bass synthetisizer TB303 The geekery around this vintage synth is phenomenal. Those who don’t know the story, in the eighties, this machine was a cheap rehearsal type of thing. Early house producing amateur trio, Dj Pierre, Spanky and Herby J together known as Phuture tried their hands on this apparat and made basically a 12-minute long hypnotic loop, “The Acid Tracks” in 1987. They managed to get the c-cassette to legendary Ron Hardy on the door of his club Music Box. Ron played the track three times during that night and the crowd reacted every time more positively until the last play made the whole club go totally nuts. This was the beginning of acid house which eventually started the rave phenomenon – and you know the rest. TB-303′s are very valuable collector synths nowadays and the obsession into fuzzy sounds of it won’t hardly ever die out.

Actually Acid Trax was released in 1987 but the tune was completed and played already some years before that! Heaven 17 had 303 madness already in 1982: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7flghNTYZI (Thanks to Sakke)
